The arrangements for the Petit Piton Hike were first class.  Daniel, our cheery driver arrived ahead of time and he was happy to tell us things along the way, which was very nice.  Our trail guide, Joshua was ready waiting and we got to the trail head in time to start at first light, as planned.  Joshua was a very pleasant young man (only 20), We were carrying lots of water, first aid kit, head-torches (for emergencies) and waterproofs!  

As far as the trail itself is concerned, this turned out to be far easier than anticipated, especially when compared to our expectation after viewing Petit Piton, from the Tet Paul Trail, on Monday.  In fact, the trail ascends the opposite side, quite easily and I was able to climb the whole way to the top without using any of the fixed ropes.   On the hardest section, I went first without ropes.  Encouraged, Joshua then also climbed up without ropes (the first time he has done this!).  The trail was well used and so it was well marked and quite easy to follow. 

Of course, we could easily have done this trail without any guide.  We do far harder things than this, without guides, in the European Alps and in UK.  As I always suspected, all we needed to know was where to start.  it was definitely a fun day out, climbing the best peak in St Lucia. 


After descending, Joshua performed his party piece, cracking open a coconut, with a rock.  Very impressive!!  Then we enjoyed a dip in the nearby Piton warm water springs, which was very refreshing, before heading back.
